Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal and has not been published in whole or in part as part of books or in journals.
  • The submission file is in Word format. The text is one-and-a-half spaced; uses a Times New Roman 12 font; uses italics instead of underlining (except in URL addresses); the margins respect the following measurements: Left and Top: 3 cm. Right and Bottom: 2 cm; figures and tables are inserted in the text, not at the end of the document as appendices. URLs for referrals are reported whenever possible.
  • Manuscripts deposited on a preprint server that supports public comments or in event proceedings are accepted for evaluation. In these cases, the authors must inform the location and origin of the paper in the first footnote or the full details of the proceedings of the event at which the work was presented.
  • The data, analytical methods and research materials used in the manuscript are transparent and publicly available, making it possible to replicate the study. In particular, quantitative data, graphs, tables, authorial or third-party databases, among other elements that can support the replicability of the study or other studies. If this data is not public, the material should be sent in a supplementary document.
  • The authors have observed all the principles of research ethics described in the "Guidelines for Authors".
  • In the case of papers with more than one author, the role of each author in the production of the article is duly explained, according to the CRediT taxonomy (See "Guidelines for Authors").
  • Authors are required to hold a minimum of a master's degree to submit a text.
  • We suggest that authors use papers already published by Contemporânea in their bibliographical references, collaborating with the circulation of the journal's production and with the citation index.
  • The content of signed works is the sole responsibility of the authors, as is the selection of descriptors (keywords).
  • If the paper is accepted for publication, the authors agree to the publication of the reviews and responses to the reviews as supplementary material to the published article (OPTIONAL).
  • Revista Contemporânea publishes papers in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.

Author identification - A cover sheet must be submitted as a separate file, stating the author's name, institutional affiliation, telephone number, email address, lattes and orcid. The author's name should not appear in the body of the text, guaranteeing anonymity in the evaluation and selection process.

Roles: Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Acquisition of funding, Investigation, Methodology, Project management, Resources, Software, Supervision, Validation, Visualization, Writing - original draft, Writing - revision and editing.

Book reviews - Critical reviews of books published in Brazil and abroad no more than three years ago will be accepted. The page limit is 6, following the same formatting as for "Papers". This way, based on the general rules for the Dossier session - a minimum of five papers and a maximum of six, all original, peer-reviewed - the coordinator is free to define its composition and write the presentation.

Indication of Research Funding - If this is the result of funded research, a short footnote should be added - starting from the title - indicating the funding according to the rules of the funder.

Citations - Citations should preferably be in the language in which the paper was written. If the citation needs to be in the original language, it should be in a footnote.

Footnotes - Numbered consecutively at the end of each page, including comments only. Authors should be highlighted in the body of the text, as follows: author's surname, year of the work, colon, page (Butler, 2003: 25). Works published in the same year should be distinguished by the letters of the alphabet (1988a - 1988b).

Bibliographical references - Contemporânea follows the ABNT guidelines. Bibliographical references should be cited at the end of the paper (review, document, interview), according to the following criteria:

Author's surname, author's name. Title of the book (italics). Place of publication, publisher, date, pages. Example:

Evaluation procedures - The works are assessed by the Editorial Committee, which forwards the pieces to ad hoc consultants. When there are conflicting opinions, the tie-breaker results in the paper being submitted to a new referee.

The Journal also offers the possibility of open evaluation, in which author(s) and reviewers are not anonymous to each other. We believe that this transparent process helps to re-establish bonds of trust with the community and allows reviewers to be recognized and rewarded for the important work they do, in line with Open Science Practices.

Papers that have already been published are not accepted, with the exception of translations of relevant theoretical texts, based on the selection and recommendation of the Editorial Committee.

The content of signed papers is the sole responsibility of the authors, as is the selection of descriptors (keywords).

The estimated time for a final decision is 3 months in the case of papers that are rejected in the evaluation by the Editorial Committee (which evaluates formal aspects, as well as the paper's adherence to the scope of the journal). For papers sent to ad hoc reviewers, the average time between submission and final decision is 7 months.
The journal receives an increasing number of submissions and has made efforts to reduce the time it takes to evaluate papers.
