Criminalizing rationality and hybrid neoliberalism
or how LGBTphobia was criminalized in Brazil
Abstract
This article seeks to understand how the demand for the criminalization of LGBTphobia became hegemonic during the years of expansion of Brazilian democracy, proposing as an analytical key the hybridization of different governmental rationalities. Based on the analysis of documents and interviews, it argues the consolidation of the criminal demand as a result of policies and strategies constructed by the criminalizing rationality and the neoliberal government in Brazil, which propagated the hegemony of these horizons in detriment of anti-criminal ways of combating violence even in the face of the radicalization of neoliberal authoritarianism in Brazilian society.
