The psycosocial care center and the anti-asylum discourse
Abstract
In Brazil, the Psychosocial Care Center is used as the main psychosocial treatment service for individuals diagnosed with severe and/or persistent mental disorders. In this context, an anti-asylum discourse is produced. The discourse analysis of documents produced by the Ministry of Health and by a unit of the Psychosocial Care Center allows us to understand the functioning of the institu- tion, as these written productions are used as guidelines. The anti-asylum dis- course produced is influenced by practices and influence practices regarding the institutionalization of mental health in Brazil.
