Abstract

The paper analyzes how the American reality show “Rupaul’s Drag Race” manages to export drag culture globally, while representing, at the same time, a threat to American conservatism, given the rise of anti-drag laws in the country. To this end, the paper uses explanatory qualitative methodology, using papers and books in the area of globalization; studies on conservatism and neoliberalism; and queer studies. The results indicate that while the market adopts niche consumption strategies for the LGBTQIA+ population, States may have conflicting domestic interests.
