Starting from a historical study on the concept of animism, this work proposes its revision and updating in contemporary psychoanalysis. For this purpose, Lacanian concept of objecta is explored in light of animism and Amerindian perspectivism, being developed here as a good articulator between psychoanalysis, indigenous thoughts, and anthropology. The fable of the praying mantis, explored in Lacan’s teachings, suggests that, even in a disenchanted modern world, the dynamics, in the inconsistent objecta, between identification and anxiety [angst] maintains an uncanny [unheimlich] indetermination to modern rationalism that demands other ontologies for its better understanding.
