This article intends to offer, through an exegetical investigation of the book The Anti-Oedipus, by Deleuze and Guattari, accompanied by the historical contextualization of the moment of its writing, some introductory brushstrokes on the important role of ethnology in the elaboration of the criticisms present in the work to the theory of Oedipus in Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis. At the same time that ethnology is at the basis of Freud’s Totem and Taboo, and in Lacan’s psychoanalysis, which is, from the beginning, inspired by the structural anthropology of Lévi-Strauss, it also grounds the criticisms of The Anti-Oedipus to the approaches of these authors.
