Water, culture and politics in rural settlements in Brazil
Abstract
The aim of this article is to understand the process of constructing the economic value of water based on the analysis of the studies for charging for water use in agriculture carried out by the Lower Tietê Basin Committee (SP). This new vision is counterpointed by the historical practices and socio-cultural relations with water of the farmers of the Reunidas settlement in Promissão - SP. The research allowed us to verify that the regulation of water is viewed in a bad light by the settlers. These elements are expressed by verbalizing that this charge is unfair and would not solve the problem of water scarcity.
